Months in Motion - 2025 in Motion
Welcome to Months in Motion - a monthly newsletter where we’ll look at some of our favourite projects, industry trends, emerging technologies, as well as studio updates from us. As the name suggests, we release these monthly, so subscribe and keep your eyes peeled for a new post at the start of each month! 👀
Favourite Projects of the year
This month, we’re wrapping up all the best bits from 2025. We’ll be highlighting our top projects from the year, the biggest industry news, our latest podcast, and highlights from this year, as well as a recap of all studio developments.
Kimathi Flavien - Stack
Combines everything we love. A mixture of 2D and 3D motion elements, kinetic type, playful, vibrant colours, and killer sound design.
Google - Material 3 Expressive
The tech giants always come through with the slick motion launch films. This one from Google was one of our favourites, highlighting motion principles and design of their latest version of Android OS.
OpenAI - Brand Refresh Launch & Superbowl Ad
OpenAI’s brand identity was a hot topic this year, and for good reason. Our friends at DUMBAR did an incredible job refreshing their identity and building a new system for motion and sound.
OpenAI also worked with the incredible Builders Club for a standout Super Bowl ad. We’re excited to say that both Studio DUMBAR and Builders Club are going to be joining us on our podcast in the New Year.
Coffee & TV Design Studio Sky Creative – Lions Series 2025
It wouldn’t be a 2025 wrap up without us highlighting this incredible work from Sky Creative and Coffee & TV. The beautiful illustrated animation film, rightly so, took home a plethora of awards following it’s launch.
Industry News Highlights
👉 Brands in Motion Site Launch
With plenty of resources and websites for animation as a whole, it was great to see the launch of a motion focused platform by Jamie Quantrill & Winston Duke. The website is a go to hub for motion inspiration and news. We also have the pleasure of hosting the two founders on an upcoming podcast episode.
👉 Buck Anyways Merger
This year, we also saw the merge of two industry legends, BUCK and Anyways. Bringing together BUCK’s global scale and storytelling expertise with Anyways’ playful, concept-led creativity. The move strengthens BUCK’s European presence, adds a new creative department, and sets the stage for bigger brand, campaign, and strategy work under a single BUCK banner.
👉 Rise in alternative tools, Cavalry, and Blender
This year, we have seen a huge rise in the adoption of alternative tools for motion.
Adobe’s long held throne has now been thwart with complacency. Lack of innovation and customer engagement has led to a significant increase in the use of more community focused tools. Our team have been experimenting with these tools more and more, and we’re loving what they have to offer.
👉 Material trends
With Google’s Material UI, Apple’s Liquid Glass, and the rise in AI tools, there has been a noticeable shift in the use of textures across design as a whole and motion design.
As we move ever closer to an augmented and AI driven future, design elements carrying a physical feel has been on the rise. A few notable examples include….
