June in Motion
Months in Motion - June in Motion
Welcome to Months in Motion - a monthly newsletter where we’ll look at some of our favourite projects, industry trends, emerging technologies, as well as studio updates from us.
As the name suggests, we release these monthly, so subscribe and keep your eyes peeled for a new post at the end of each month! 👀
This month we have two podcast episodes for you!
First, we sit down with Cat How, CEO, Founder & ECD of How&How design studio alongside Senior Creative, Eilidh Reid.
We also have a special episode with Lisa Smith on her work for D&AD festival 2025, with JKR in collaboration with Studio DRAMA.
Favourite Projects
Vivo S30 - Flatwhite
Last month, we saw Flatwhite Motion collaborate with Vivo to launch their latest S30 phone.
The vibrant mixed media piece features a combination of 2D motion graphics, 3D product renders, bold 2D character design mixed with some live - making for a launch video we just love.
We spoke with Fafa Zhu from Flatwhite Motion who told us that “combining 2D and 3D content makes it feel a lot more approachable for the audience — it's not all just heavy visual effects and rendering.”
Using 2D motion and animation with 3D renders really allows the product to pop and create contrast between the visuals, with Zhu describing them as feeling “very light and airy” making “it a perfect way to highlight the phone”’
Why stick to one animation style when you can blend?
Coffee & TV Design Studio Sky Creative – Lions Series 2025
Bringing another artist's work to life is no small task, in March’s edition, Not to Scale’s work for GWR, showed that it could be done, and this month we see it again with Coffee & TV’s work for Sky Creative’s Lions Series opener.
Taking the original work of Konstantina, an Indigenous artist from Australia, their team created a visually stunning piece, blending motion design with CGI that almost pops out of the viewer's screen.
Coffee & TV used a “Houdini workflow for the hero lion” allowing them to create “a fully customisable, living painting, rendered from the 3D base model.”
This clever combination of animation techniques allows animation to be injected into the original artwork while maintaining the painterly look and feel of Konstantina’s original artworks.
Designing with Character: How&How on Motion, Mood & Meaningful Branding
In our monthly edition of Months in Motion, we were lucky enough to host Cat How, CEO, Founder and ECD and Eilidh Reid, Senior Creative from How&How design studio.
In this episode, we discuss how How&How used motion in projects like their award-winning Wild Thingz, The Wombles, Chester Zoo, Yango Maps, and more.
We talk frame rates, character design, kinetic type, and all the other good stuff in between.

Designing the D&AD ‘25 Brand Identity with Lisa Smith, Global ECD at JKR
This year, we attended D&AD fest for the first time.
Amidst the incredible conversations and talks, one thing really stood out to us:The bold, cohesive identity that had been built for the entire event.
This month, we sat down with Lisa Smith to hear more about how her team and Studio DRAMA went about building this identity.
In this episode, we discuss how the teams drew inspiration from the pencil, taking it back to the true feeling of D&AD. And, how motion played a huge part in the identity, drawing from some unlikely sources of inspiration.
